Take a read of this information. Hope it don't bore you!
It's a little bit of history mainly about my career in Ayia Napa, and a little bit about the present, and what I'm doing now.
I have to say that I'm very proud of what I achieved over the years, out there in what was once a sleepy little village in Cyprus, with beautiful beaches and great surroundings. The first time I went there as an adult and for a holiday was in 1989, and although there were probably 3 or 4 little clubs, I found myself travelling every night to Larnaca which was a good 45 minutes up the old potholed road, before the new motorway was built.
The days were spent recovering on those beautiful beaches, and fortunately, they still are beautiful, and that just can't be taken away from the place. I have travelled throughout my career as a DJ, and without sounding like someone from the Cyprus Tourist Board, I have honestly struggled to find a place with better beaches and clearer seas than the ones in Ayia Napa & Protaras. Thailand is probably the only place that I can say is very very close.
My next visit in 1992 I noticed a change with more clubs, plenty of tourists, but crap music. It was your usual euro pop style everywhere, and honestly I mean everywhere. In fact, on weekends, all the bars used to broadcast the local radio station through their sound system. I couldn't believe it. It was then that I realised there was a market for a club that would actually play some decent music and give the tourists a choice of something different, other than UB40's "Red Red Wine" & Dr Alban's "It's My Life". So after a couple of years on visiting Napa, and taking a little tour of the clubs with a record bag full of good Underground House Music, I built up a large following of people, and took them all from club to club, creating a fantastic atmosphere wherever we went. From then I would get asked by the clubs to play every night. It was then that I thought, 'why not open your own', so in 1995 the Kool Club was born.
Without going into great big long stories, of how it progressed etc, The Kool Club was a major success and it's reputation of being the best in Cyprus and not just Ayia Napa spread like wildfire. From professional footballers to singing superstars, models, actors & actresses, top DJ's etc, the list is endless. They all came and wanted to be a part of it all, if not blowing a fog horn on stage to getting the microphone and mc'ing, to begging for a chance to get on the decks. Yes, it was that crazy. I've lost count of the amount of daily newspapers the club was featured in, and the amount of TV documentaries worldwide that I've appeared in about it and my achievements there. It was in one of those BBC documentaries that DJ Spoonie called me 'the Godfather of Ayia Napa', and in another 'The Legend That Started It All'. Thanks Spoonie! It's now progressed to Boss Man and a few other things. Ha ha!
As I'm sure you've all realised from reading the above, I achieved a major goal out there, and can't say that I have any regrets.
After 12 years in Ayia Napa, and
being a phenomenal success, Nick
Power's Kool Club may have finally
seen the closing of it's doors.
Proud to have been named the Best
Club In Ayia Napa & receiving
several awards for best night out
etc. The Kool Club closed in 2004.
Venue changes,
lack of quality tourism, local
licensing problems and a whole list
of other things caused the decision
to close the club. This didn't
stop Nick Power from being at the
centre of Ayia Napa club life
though.
2005 saw him return to the club he
built up to be majorly successful,
The Castle Club (former Kool Club),
and take on the role of Resident DJ
for the Castle Club & Miss
Moneypennies,
DJ Manager, and also PR Manager.
In the summer of 2006, Nick Power
was the Resident DJ for Kinky
Malinki in the resort, and still did
his regular sets, playing live to
2000 people on the famous Nissi Beach.

Nick Power Says: I'm sad that it's all finally come to an end out there for The Kool Club, but being honest again, I have to lay my hat down somewhere, and it wasn't easy leaving things behind at base in the UK for 6 months at a time, and then leaving again after another 6 months. So now full time base is the UK, but I'll still be going out to Napa to do my guest spots and to play on those great beaches. Especially Nissi Bay Beach Bar. What a buzz!! 2000 ravers on the beach, in the sunshine. What more can a DJ ask for eh!!
Right now, I'm still very active on the club & radio circuit, and you can find me live on the radio across London's airwaves on 90.6 FM, and worldwide via internet streaming on www.unknownfm.net every Friday between 08.00 - 10.00 GMT. This show is also broadcast in Northern Tenerife on Dance FM 106.7.
I also do a radio show every Saturday afternoon on SSRadiouk.com between 14.00-16.00 hours GMT. If you miss it you can always listen again or even podcast the show by clicking HERE. Please also leave your comments and votes.
I'm also playing at various venues as resident or guest DJ all over the world.
Thank you all who supported me & The Kool Club over the years, it's greatly appreciated, and I look forward to entertaining and serving you for many years to come.
Nick Power.
